#UltraCEO kick-starts training for Badwater with Cardiff Half Marathon
BLOG | WideCells Group
Our WideCells Group #UltraCEO, João Andrade, kick-started his training for Badwater in 2020, with the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 1st October.
The Welsh capital, Cardiff, welcomed over 25,000 runners from elite athletes to fundraisers for the second largest event of its kind in the UK.
In his spotted orange t-shirt, João teamed up with BigMoose, one of the three charities we have pledged to raise funds for, to complete this race. There were over 100 participants running with BigMoose who all successfully made it across the finish line.
João completed the Half Marathon after 2 hours and 28 minutes!
With an overwhelming number of participants, the first few miles were spent walking before finally progressing to a jog then a run.
Record numbers took part in the mass event, putting it behind the London Marathon and Great North Run, in terms of popularity on a national level.
The race first took place in 2003 and has grown significantly since.
WideCells have committed to raise £50,000 for a trio of charities: BigMoose, SPEM Portugal and CHAMPS Appeal, three very different charities, all of which have a connection with WideCells Group PLC.
João will continue to spend the next three years, running the toughest trails and marathons to qualify.
